Newsweek’s Steven Levy writes about the SSSCA hearings in the Senate, and how some would have you believe that millions of online song swappers are criminals. Technically, that’s true… but if enough registered voters decide that they’re fed up with the way current copyright laws are written and enforced, the laws can be changed.
Yes, the content holders have deep pockets. But, they have a much smaller number of votes. I’ve got some thoughts on promoting legal, consumer-friendly online music with or without the record labels. I’ll write more about that later.
